The mission of Friends at Play is “to develop an interest in piano among children and adults by providing unique and accessible opportunities for piano performance.” There are many outstanding pianists and performance opportunities in the Shenandoah Valley, however, Friends at Play offers a unique arts experience both in style and material. All performances are played by an eight-hand ensemble, and the music, while technically very rigorous, is accessible to a wide variety of listeners. The repertoire includes contemporary, jazz, traditional, and patriotic. The energy of four players performing widely enjoyable music on two pianos creates a musical excitement that is unique, highly desirable, and otherwise unavailable in the Valley.
